On Saturday night, 19-year-old Lady O from Lutry in the canton of Vaud won the final of The Voice on TF1. The first Swiss artist to do so in fifteen years of competition. Florent Pagny had signed her from the blind auditions with a version of Lana Del Rey, and from the beginning he said it was a "musical UFO". It wasn't misguided.
Oriane, who is actually called that, grew up in a family of winegrowers in Lavaux. Her father plays bass, her brother drums, and she learned music alone, without a conservatory, writing and producing her own songs as a teenager. In the end he performed a composition of his own, "Little Me", an intimate song in which he talks about things he has lived through. That's what ended up tipping the scales.
Finishing, with a Swiss flag in her hand on the TF1 stage, she said, “Today I win by being myself.” In fifteen editions of the program, no Swiss had achieved it before. It's the kind of thing that happens once.
